James Cameron's Avatar films are oddities in the Hollywood landscape for more than one reason. The first Avatar arrived in 2009 to, if not total critical acclaim, amazement and a staggering box office, earning nearly $3 billion at the global box office. Despite rumors of more Avatar films, they did not materialize until over a decade later.
