The Pokémon franchise as a whole has changed drastically since its inception in 1996, and the evolution of the games has been the most noticeable by far. While the mainline series has strayed far from the humble origins of its predecessors, some fans are still keeping the spirit of the classic era of the series alive through fan creations like Pokémon Rose Gold.
