The Sopranos took a massive swing with season 3, episode 11, “Pine Barrens,” but it ended up going down as one of the show’s all-time classics. It doesn’t always work out when a TV show pivots away from the main cast, adopts a new tone and style, and tells a totally different kind of story than it usually does.
