The Matrix was the perfect movie to end not just the 1990s but the millennium as a whole. Innovative, stylish, intelligent, intense - the Wachowskis delivered a perfect marriage of story, character, and visuals to create a film that is both innately of its era and utterly timeless. An additional three movies would follow, with The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions in 2003, then The Matrix Resurrections 18 years later.
