Why Mario Kart DS Remains the Pinnacle of the Franchise 20 Years Later

In many regards, the Mario Kartfranchise is in the best shape it's ever been in. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe claimed a spot as the best-selling game on the original Switch, and Mario Kart World helped move millions of Switch 2 units in a matter of weeks. The modern games are gorgeous, expansive, and creative, with freewheeling tracks that would have been hard to even dream of two decades ago. If Mario Kart World ends up with DLC comparable to Mario Kart 8's, the future could be even better.
